Dutch sailing ship rescues rudderless German

A Dutch sailing ship saved, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, a German sailor. The 65-year-old man bobbed for two weeks drifting around in his yacht, as reported by the crew of the Dutch ship 'Tres Hombres' Saturday 29/12.

Re: Dutch sailing ship rescues rudderless German

For those who don't speak Dutch:

Although the German had radioed a distress call he wasn't found. He reached "Tres Hombres" just before they stopped searching via radio. He had been drifting over 2 weeks with a broken rudder. The "Tres Hombres" rescued the tired man on Boxing Day and took his sailboat in tow.

Nothing in the German press (yet).

Even more remarkable is that the Tres Hombres is a 32m long tall ship, and it doesn't have an engine...

Interesting. I wrote about the potential revival of cargo shipping by sail earlier in the year and these guys and their "artisinal shipping" project were brought to my attention by friends in Grenada.

She's a beauty...and filled with chocolate!

That's a lucky sailor to be rescued in such style.

Nice to have both the crew and boat rescued. The fact that it was by an engineless sailboat is even better. Hats off to the Tres Hombre crew!

Re: Dutch sailing ship rescues rudderless German

The German sailor may have felt a bit puzzled seeing a proper sailing ship coming to his rescue!

Very glad to hear all is fine. Great job Tres Hombres' crew!
