Downloaded SeaClear 11

Hi folks: Just downloaded ECS called SeaClear 11.... freeware that has had some positive reviews. If you are using the product or have some info on where to get charts for them, it would be appreciated.

P.S... winter working is over for the kitty top up and back aboard DarMi on Tuesday. ... oh yeah!!

Regards ...

Yeah I did yesterday, someone mentioned it on one of the forums. Basically, say goodbye to paying for US charts raster of vector. Really really good. It reads the GIStiff format so can add GIS info to raster charts. We have 11x17" printer at work, hmmm.... I guess I'll have to stay and work late one of these nights.

I found the Seaclear manual to be quite lacking. But once I did get it figured out it's not bad, considering the price. Give yourself time to get used to the program before heading out on any major cruse.
It only uses raster charts, which are basicly a picture of actual nav charts. No vector chart usage.

Seaclear has another neat little trick. If you purchase NASA's AIS engine, and connect it to the lap top, Seaclear will superimpose the AIS data on large merchant ships on top of your chart data.

Personally I prefer to use www.shipplotter.com system for the AIS data, then tab alt to the chart.

Is anyone else noticing that NOAA RNC download site is down?

http://ocsdata.ncd.noaa.gov/ChartSer...x.jsp?type=BSB

Java Servlet is broken or maybe they are updating it.

Maptech is taking over 24 hours to email me the link for the download???

I only got down to Chesapeake...

Phorvati - yes they do that. You'll get an email with the special link to YOUR download area with the maps you have requested. THEN you'll be allowed to download them. It is cumbersome, but it does work. Why? dunno - but it IS free Oh .. and you'll have... 48 hours to d/l them after which YOUR d/l area will disappear.

I also like SeaClear II. I downloaded it specifically for the AIS plotting capability which I found to be reasonably robust. I published my evaluation of the AIS implementation of SeaClear and several other products on my website at http://www.svsarah.com/Sarah/Upgrades/AIS.htm

have a look at http://www.shipplotter.com, yes you have to pay a small amount, but the software is much better for AIS than SeaClear.

Just a quick note for downloading charts from Maptech:

Instead of waiting for your download email to come to your email account, just copy the confirmation ID number from the confrimation notice page and go to the check download status page:
http://www.freeboatingcharts.com/ind...page=jobstatus

and enter your email and the confirmation ID #. No waiting 24 hrs.

Why don't you also try OpenCPN as discussed elsewhere on this forum; also supports AIS and you can even use NOAA vector charts.
