Re: Dominican Republic

Do it! It`s beautiful.
I can recomment to anchor in the natural reserve in Pedernales.
Also Boca de Yuma has a good anchoring spot. you can drive into the river and tie up to the rocks.

Just anchor anywhere where you would like and the locals can provide you with water, food, fuel and whatever else you need.

You are not allowed to stay at a beach at night time without the Marina de Guerra knowing. They are in every port where fishermen are. With a bit of spanish you can make your way through (or an online translator). Small gifts speed up processes. Small gifts are 200 pesos, don`t pull out more of your pocket than you are willing to pay. If they ask for more then just say you don
t have any more and you have to buy food too.
Even the local fishermen have to get a "despacio" when they go out fishing. Like this the locals can tack them and start searches when they get lost at sea.
If I go out fishing with the locals for one day I have to bring my passport and get a despacio.

I have downloaded a dominican republic cruising guide from somewhere, don`t remember where though but I am sure you will be able to find it.

I think that's a "despacho."
