We also have small, double braid lazy jacks that pull fwd to the mast and they are spliced with small plastic thimbles.

Since they are now about 12 years old and the lines are falling apart, I decided to make new ones using spectra/UHMWP line with spliced eyes and no thimbles on the splices.

I think the slippery lines and no blocks (which always chafe the sail if you forget them tight against the sail) or thimbles is a good solution to LJ chafe.
