Re: Do sailors drink too much?
a six pack can last the summer, and I only buy rum once a year at launch time.
Never been a big drinker, now coffee on the other hand couple of IV's and a hat to hold the pots and I'm good to go...

I'm an operator of a motor vessel. Although not currently a sailor, I voted anyway. Will this distort the results?

Re: Do sailors drink too much?
When we were out cruising many years ago, everyone drank some but, with a few exception, none drank very much. The only heavy drinkers were some retired military couples. If you saw them dinghying up to your boat, you had to hide your liquor and offer them something non alcoholic. They'd soon move on if not treated to alcohol. If you weren't quick enough in hiding the bottles, They wouldn't leave until they drained whatever you had or they fell overboard in a drunken stupor.

Re: Do sailors drink too much?
For me, there is something about being on a sailboat that makes drinking more enjoyable. It may be because I don't eat much when I'm aboard and beer is a good substitute.

Re: Do sailors drink too much?
One drink (beer) per week. If I drink a beer every day, I notice that my ability to get things done is reduced and I get fat.
Wish I could drink enough to get drunk occasionally as it is lots of fun. Can't do it because the hangover almost kills me.
I would make a boring pirate.

Re: Do sailors drink too much?
I drink what I want to drink, when I want to drink and how much I want to drink; but it's definitely not a habit. When I'm lazin on the boat and doing small projects I'll crack a lager at 11am and by 11pm I've went through more than a twelve pack. Other days I'll have one or two after sailing or work and none at all for days on end. Depends on the occasion as to when I go into party mode; and I love parties! I always have beer in the fridge and a few bottles of wine and spirits for when I have company.

Re: Do sailors drink too much?
They sell swag here that reads "Annapolis is a drinking town with a sailing problem." Lots of it.

It's easier to drink on a motorboat.

Re: Do sailors drink too much?
"Too much"? How do you quantify that?
A person drinks "too much" if they drink more than I do.
If they drink less than I do, they are a either a wuss or a wowser.
I'd rather associate with the former, but there seem to be more of the latter around.
