Our books have gotten 5 star reviews on Amazon. Several readers have written "I never thought I would go on a circumnavigation, but when I read these books, I was right there in the cockpit with Vinni and Carsten"

Re: Do sailors drink too much?

I find it's the sailors who don't go very far who tend to drink to much. Marina bound liveaboards for instance tend to booze it up pretty hard as they spin yarns of what they "will do". Alcohol is more dangerous than it's given credit for, but a brainwashed conservative right demonizes marijuana. I stick to safely smoking herbs, therefore never having my judgement or motor skills compromised. Colorado is the first to right a wrong that's been going on to long. I won't even go into the war on drugs scam and what a terribly waste of money it was. My prediction - the older than 60 crowd thinks I'm nuts and wrong, unless they were involved in the 60's hippy scene/music/dead ect... And the under 45 crowd knows pot is harmless, the DARE program a joke, and has successful friends that are, lawyers, cops, insurance sales, boat brokers, mayors, stockbrokers, ect.. That smoke and are upstanding citizens. I'm way more worried about any drunks judgment than a weed smoker any day.

Re: Do sailors drink too much?

I'm with the never under way crowd. When in the sun all day it only seems to give me a headache. But as with many hear once the hook is dropped a evening night cap is hard to beat! I never exceed more than two drinks on the hook as after a day on the water I'm usually falling asleep. If tied at the dick we may have two or eight more!

Re: Do sailors drink too much?

So... I don't know about coordination but I'm pretty sure there is plenty of scientific research that says judgement and reaction times are affected by marijuana use. I could be wrong but I'm sure a quick google search will solve the question. However I've been around it enough to know that it definitely affects judgement and balance. For that reason alone I'd still never do it under way or to excess.

I will agree that you are correct on the it is far less harmful than alcohol, there is plenty of scientific data to back that up.
