DIY boatyards along CT coast
Looking for easy-going, inexpensive (for the area 8-), ideally not overly restrictive about "outside help" rules, maybe even allow camping on the boat a few nights at a time as I'm over an hour away.
Ideally between Stamford and New Haven, but willing to drive a bit further to get more of the above.
If those criteria are just flat-out unrealistic, then alternatives in the region welcome, I'll move house if needed, but hopefully with a good school system for the kids. . .

Norwalk Cove Marina
I've sailed out of there with Sound Sailing Center. Yard is very busy with owners working on their boats.
1hr or so from NYC, driving or by train.

Re: DIY boatyards along CT coast
Sleeping onboard (while on the hard) and outside services....
Look at Dockominiums. They don't typically have onsite services, so insured companies are allowed on site. Everyone I've ever stayed at allowed you to sleep on your boat. We're over 2+ hours away from our boat. We sleep on it in the fall during layup and spring during commissioning and have been doing so for the last 12 years.
The benefit to Dockominiums is they typically have kitchens and social spaces (couches and TV) along with bathrooms and showers open 24 x 7 year round.

Great concept!
But way too far off to the east for me, if I have to move house with the family, needs to be close to a hot-market high-income city, and NYC's where my contact network is.
Now, if they dropped one into the Pelham Bay area. . .

Re: DIY boatyards along CT coast
Go to Port Milford in Milford, CT. I have a 42 foot slip you could rent for $100 per week including electricity. You can haul out and work on your boat there too. Very nice guys

Re: DIY boatyards along CT coast
John;
Not too far out of your geographic zone, but could try either:
Dutch's Wharf in Branford, CT. Sam is the yard mgr - can DIY, but never inquired about live aboard while inthe yard.
Alittle farther down the connecticut coast is Brown's Boatyard in Guilford, ct
Again DIY okay, but dont know about live aboard. Hank new yard owner as of 3 yrs ago is helpful, knowledgeable, and easy to work with.
thnks
dave

Re: DIY boatyards along CT coast
Dutch wharf is real pricy. I did a 3 summer overhaul including paint at Bruce and Johnson in Branford. Great place. I’m still there but in the water now.
