Departure checklist

Just curious, I recently read an article recommending a written pre departure checklist like pilots use. Do any of you do something like this? Would you share your list.

They also recommended a formal passenger safety briefing. Anyone do this? What do you brief? I'm married to a flight attendNt so I could have it done professionally 😃

Re: Departure checklist

I don't have a departure checklist, but I do do a crew briefing pre-departure for passages. I take all crew along, stem to stern on deck, and point out everything they might need to know -- from how to deploy anchor to where preventer should be attached. I then take them below, give a thorough tour of the nav station/electrical panels, point out PFDs and flares/smoke, and give them a PFD/harness & tether and ask them to adjust to fit so that it'll be ready when they need it. I review COB procedure, radio procedure, head usage, shower usage, and propane system. Even if folks have sailed with me before, I still give them the same review.

Our books have gotten 5 star reviews on Amazon. Several readers have written "I never thought I would go on a circumnavigation, but when I read these books, I was right there in the cockpit with Vinni and Carsten"
