Re: Day Shapes while Anchoring

Here are a few more specific to Massachusetts. Do you think people are out writing tickets for this?

Do you think people are getting in trouble for these?

Do you think anyone actually obeys any of these laws?

No. They are no longer enforced yet they are the law. It’s the same with the black balls if they are even part of the body of law.

In my entire lifetime at sea, on the eastern seaboard of the United States, no pleasure craft has ever used one of these things in my presence.

I had always thought that people from the United States were the close minded ones. I am very surprised to see that people from other countries can be just as bad. You all would be like Trump people over here. Lol

1. It is illegal to give beer to hospital patients.

2. At a wake, mourners may eat no more than three sandwiches.

3. Tomatoes may not be used in the production of clam chowder.

4. Snoring is prohibited unless all bedroom windows are closed and securely locked.

5. Quakers and witches are banned.

6. An old ordinance declares goatees illegal unless you first pay a special license fee for the privilege of wearing one in public.

7. All men must carry a rifle to church on Sunday.

8. Alcoholic drink specials are illegal.

9. Hunting on Sundays is prohibited.

10. Public boxing matches are outlawed.

11. It is illegal to go to bed without first having a full bath.

12. No gorilla is allowed in the back seat of any car.

13. Tattooing and body piercing is illegal. (Repealed in 2000)

14. Children may smoke, but they may not purchase cigarettes.

Thanks; I'm aware of the tightening rules. But there is zero enforcement. Probably because most Danish and Swedish boats don't have holding tanks. I do have one, and use it.

Indeed. Or pleasure craft run by amateur mariners aspiring to professionalism and good seamanship.

The Day Shapes are part of the COLREGS and pleasure boats can face a penalty of $5,000
for violating the rules and commercial craft $25,000.
People don't use the balls much because of ignorance, hence this is a great thread, people get
informed, whether they like it or not.

Re: Day Shapes while Anchoring

Chill pill Chotu, no one is telling you US lot what to do. In my case I’m pushing back at the repeated assertion from you and other (presumably US-based) CF members that the anchoring day shape is not in the US COLREGs. It is.

The other part of the message is why not use the day shape, as it is very easy to be compliant? But AFAIK none of us wrote that you should be using the day shape if you don’t want to.

Re: Day Shapes while Anchoring

I cannot understand the reluctance to display the day shape.

It only takes a minute to deploy, but it establishes the rights that collision regs grant to vessels that are at anchor. Why would you forgo these advantages?

That would be the Red Neck Factor: I don't understand it, I never heard of it so I don't want it.

Your desperately “ reaching “

The gun in church was repealed in 1990

Several you mentioned have been repealed

Several are taken out of context

I see so laws “ you think are silly “ you don’t obey even if it’s easy to comply.
