My dad talked about learning to sail when he was an American Private in the army stationed in Okinawa Japan in the late 40's. It was one of those "fond recollections" that he recalled many times as I grew up. Taking care of a family of 7 required two+ jobs and more hours than you find in a week, so he was in his 60s before he got a chance to sail again. By then, my wife and I had learned on a 20' O'day - driven by allure of story from my youth.

Dad passed away last year - but has provided a legacy in something he needed to wait 40 years to get back to doing. Now, his grandchildren are learning to sail - because their grandfather told their dad stories of sailing a bay on Okinawa.
