Applejack (beverage) | Ask.com Encyclopedia

I just grab a gallon of Apple cider or juice and some Raisins. Add 1 or 2 packets of yeast and the raisins. Let it sit and turn it once or twice a week. Then run it through a coffee filter after a month or so.
Sit back and complain about the hang over the next day. I think I could make it along the way and wouldn't even have to turn it each day.

How do you keep her from banging her head on the ceiling of the Vberth when you take her back to your place?

Re: Cruising on $500 per Month . . .

my uncle was apple farmer--only used apples in his apple jack--was totally AWESOME, as he used a variety of fresh apples for it----only hard cider i ever liked was created on his apple farm, and was made into the best jack. allhe did was leave the cider in the cellar at the farmhouse for a year......

I am not much of a drinker but I do make wine and give most to my friends ...If you dont want the hangover and you are waiting a month for the stuff to work off anyway dont add so much yeast..it only takes a few grains of yeast to kick it off ,like maybe 30 or 40 and heat the liquid up a little and in 2 to 4 days it will kick off and start the fermentation...all that yeast is what causes the headach and it will make it ferment in a week or so.But since your waiting a month anyway is not needed...it will taste a lot better also ...and if you taste it every 3 or 4 days(after it kicks off) and it is getting a sour taste give it a cup of sugar and it will really get going..when it gets to the point of not taken on a sour or vinegar taste stop adding the sugar..there I have gone and given away my friends "secret" recipe after I told him I would never ever give it away...DVC

Re: Cruising on $500 per Month . . .

I've tried sailing around the world 3 years at a time on a tight budget and never had a problem. Just cut costs where you know you can and reserve the funds for things you'll need the most.

Bean balls and Green Bean Stew

This is a new invention.

Cook 1 cup of white beans until soft.
Mash the beans.

Saute 1 onion and 2 cloves garlic in oil
Add the beans a tin of tomatoes, 1 cup water 1t cumin, 1t coriander, salt,
pepper, 1 celery stalk chopped fine.

Cook into a thick paste.

To the bean paste add 1 egg, & 2 T flour
Mix (the consistency should be a stiff dough.
Roll in to meat ball size pieces
Dredge with flour
Fry til golden on both sides
Drain on paper towel.

For the sauce:

Saute 1 onion, chopped 3 cloves garlic, minced til golden
Add 1 tin tomatoes, 1 t cumin, a pinch of cinnamon, a pinch of nutmeg, & 1t coriander, 1 t salt, 1t pepper, 3 boullion cubes & 3 C water.

Simmer for 1.5 hours

Add 1 lb cut green beans, 2 sliced carrots, and 1/2 cabbage, shredded
Simmer for 30 mins
Add the bean balls made earlier
simmer for 10 mins
Serve over rice.

This makes enough for 6 meals, freezes well, is tasty, and meatless.

Sounds like a great recipe, except for that whole "simmer for 1.5 hours" part...

Here's the $500 a month version.

Bring some pasta to a boil.
Turn the heat off.
Add a can of beans,
Add a can tomatoes.
Salt and Pepper to taste.
Throw in some sprouts.

Makes enough for 2 meals, unless you're really hungry... If you have too much leftovers, use as chum for catching tomorrows meal.

Enjoy!

I don't know how big a party you're gonna have with 1 cup of everclear. But, the rest of your logic is sound

The budget version:

1 litre everclear + whatever everyone else brings = Party

$8 party! anyone can handle that once a week

You forgot at least 4 fenders for the boat.

Re: Cruising on $500 per Month . . .

Just drink the Everclear yourself and be done with it, you have 5 minutes to complete!

Be sure that you haven't eaten in the past 12 hours to get full effect.

Try this for size...
1/2 T'spoon Cayenne pepper
1 T'spoon ground Cumin
1/2 T'spoon Garam Masala
1 T'spoon ground Coriander
1 Tablespoon Lemon juice
1/4 T'spoon Salt
1in fresh Root Ginger or 1 T'spoon ground
1 Tablespoon Tomato puree
1 lge Onion finely chopped
1/3rd pint Chicken stock
2 Tablespoons fresh Coriander/Parsley chopped
fresh ground Black pepper
6-8 eggs (hardboiled) peeled and halved length ways.
Mix the dried spices with salt, some Black pepper and the lemon juice and set aside to brew. Add water if needed to make a paste.
Fry onion in some oil till browning a tad then chuck in the ginger and stir once add the Spice paste, mix then add the Tomato puree.. stir over medium heat till oil starts seperating.....
Bung in the Chicken stock and Coriander then bring to the boil and simmer... chuck in the eggs and simmer till sauce thickens...
Serve it with boiled White rice... Basmati or Thai is best..

If you have some Cream add 1/2 a cup same time as the stock....
turns a mild Egg Madras into a Moghali... and whole different taste...
