Cruisers who are disabled veterans.

Does anyone know of any discounted services available for disabled veterans? We get free access to most national parks but we don't know if any of them have slips actually in the park. Any vets use the access to any of the naval bases and are there any services available there for cruisers?

Maybe check with the Warrior Sailing organization. They might know and I hear they do real good things.

Re: Cruisers who are disabled veterans.

I crewed on a boat that was owned by Vets. We stayed at the NAS at key west because the civilian marinas were very expensive. Any money they saved was eaten up by the taxis because it was $40 one way into town.

Most naval bases with a marina will take vet owned boats, and you can buy from the Exchange, but Amazon or Walmart are cheaper and ship quicker. In Oregon if you're 60% or more, you get free a fishing license, but still need to buy salmon, etc., stamps. And you get disabled vet plates for one vehicle with no renewal costs. As I remember $25 for the original plate, no stamp goes on the plate and no yearly stamp needed. Most cops won't give disabled plates a ticket if you're polite and not in the middle of a crime spree. When stopped, I always comply, so I don't worry about being shot. Other states may have similar deals.
