Re: Cruiser unfriendly? You betcha.

I have heard of some people in the Rio Negro region in the Amazon which maintain their tribe the same way- they kill anyone who comes in their territory before they have a chance to explain themselves. May they live long and prosper away from the rest of the world....
I think we, as civilization, should have our own prime directive.

Duh! From the fishermen they kill of course! ... or the boats they lure on the reef with a lantern at night...

I read them a while ago. Definitely best left alone.

I'm looking forward to the Indian Ocean because let's be honest: it's the craziest place in the world.

You seem well versed in the art of stone age anchor wrangling.

(or the boats they lured onto the reefs at night with their lanterns.) They must have learned that from our British ancestors. Just a thought. _____Grant.

Yes! They are just a little behind the times... maybe 200 years? Maybe if we get them internet it will help? :>)
I can see it now on Cruisers Forum: "North Sentinal native needs anchor advice...How do I get an anchor cheap? My boat is a crude canoe made from reeds with an outrigger. My tribe regularly kills and eats fishermen who drift into our area... but how can I be the first to their boat and claim the anchor after the fisherman is dead? Please advise....."
and later " What type of anchor is best...?"

Wow. I looked all over the satellite image on Google maps and I couldn't even find a clearing, a hut, a trail, anything. Gotta love their spirit tho!

Is it isolationism?

Is it population control?

Both?

Re: Cruiser unfriendly? You betcha.

I recall when an isolated tribe that spoke some unknown dialect of Tagalog was discovered in the 1970s. Now that dialect is incorporated onto lists of languages available for translation on computer software.

They should just drop a couple coke bottles on the island. That's a movie reference.
