Cost to add A/C and Radar to 2011 B40?
We are looking at sister ships which have some different equipment and wondering about costs to use in calculating what they are worth. The nicer boat is older but has radar and factory heat and air where the newer boat lacks both.
I am guessing about $ 6-10k for the air and $ 5k for the radar, does this seem reasonable?
I am in Canada but can certainly convert US$ for this purpose.
Thanks,
Dan

Both can vary widely, but I think you are in the ballpark.
Although I would consider anything electric over 5 yrs old to be worthless from a valuation standpoint.
Both are an easy install, complicated part is the thru-hull.
Actually I think I spent closer to $3K for my AC

And you can go as little as $2K or less for Radar, or much higher if you chose
Biggest savings is if you do the install

I link to Defender as they are easy, but shop around, give Hopcar a chance, he usually comes up with better prices

It should be easy enough to calculate how much it will cost to install these in the boat without them. Just ask the manufacturer their current prices for all the bits.
I fitted two big air conditioning/heating units for $4600 total. You can read the AC installation at Fitting air conditioning in the boat
I bought a Raymarine HD color radar for a total of $3,000, including cable and multifunction display and also installed that myself.
Will you install them yourself, or pay someone? Ask an installer for an estimate and add it all up, and you have the value of new equipment - which is worth more than used.
Have you actually tested the older boats AC and radar? That might be illuminating.

What existing A/C and Radar? When we bought our current boat we went through the same exercise. Newer gear "might" have an advantage but if the older gear is functional, we have found that some of the older electronics and A/C units are actually more robust than the new "stuff" and, frankly, perfectly adequate unless you really want/need the latest bells'n whistles.

I added a 16K BTU A/C with heat as a DIY project. Labor intensive but simple installation that cost just under 3000.00

Don't forget the hardware for the radar dome - pole, mast or backstay mount. Will it tie into an existing MFD? New wireless unit or pulling cable?
A/C - shore power or generator? Self install or pro?

Re: Cost to add A/C and Radar to 2011 B40?
Thanks Everybody, I am in love with the 2008 boat but struggling with the price. After this summer on the boat we are both thinking there are quite a few nights that we would use the air conditioning at the dock and so while we could live without it, the complete boat for us should have it.
