Re: cost for ocean transportation via ship

I shipped my 39’ catamaran from St Thomas to Vancouver on Dock Wise, float on float off,
cargo ship. I played the hard sell with them and they finally agreed to drop their rates by $10,000. I reckon time was geting close to pick up time and they had not yet achieved a full load. It ended costing $17,000 US.

cost for ocean transportation via ship

Delivered a 48’ ketch to Ensenada this past summer for transport on heavy-lift ship, Industrial Diamond, $20,000 to Florida. Crane on, crane, off, no need to drop the rig.

I get involved with shipping (not boats) and can say that any price from pre-gfc is simply irrelevant when making comparisons. Prices for everything are way higher now.

On the other hand, I like the idea of doing a pacific crossing and as well as enjoying it, reminding yourself that you’re “earning” 500 dollars a day doing it

Re: cost for ocean transportation via ship

I too am with the POOR people who can enjoy the trip of a lifetime crossing the oceans EARNING $500 a day.......L.O.L. ! If I had a ton of money and the bought was brand new shipping it might make sense. And to think that a professional crew would cost even more money makes me feel like a professional too. Think these guys are for the super rich folks anyway. Since I am not that rich and our boat is a 1981 we will going everywhere on our own bottom. Good to know what the ships and professional charge though.

Actually Florida to Australia will be less than $200/day.. and thats if you only stop to pass through Panama and maybe 1 island to resupply/fuel..
Thats on her own keel.. but live your little fantasy till reality hits.

Anyone got a relatively recent price for deck transport from New Zealand to Ensenada? This would be a 51 mono
Thanks!

Re: cost for ocean transportation via ship

I have a quote in hand for a 40 footer on a float-on, float-off. thailand to italy - USD$23,000

tha't not a bad price - considering the other option is to sail around cape hope, over to brazil then the carib and back to the med - total time about 1 year.

there are undoubtedly people here who will say they can easily sail that trip for much less, but $2000 per month is pretty darn cheap when you add up food and boat maintenance.

Honestly, unless you're planning on living on beans and rice then it is actually cheaper to ship the boat than to sail around cape hope.

going the Aden is not a option in my world

Our books have gotten 5 star reviews on Amazon. Several readers have written "I never thought I would go on a circumnavigation, but when I read these books, I was right there in the cockpit with Vinni and Carsten"

There's no schedule from new Zealand, so you're at the mercy of whoever is here at the time. I noticed in the paper there was a floating dock in Auckland the other day that's brought some huge superyacht here. If you can book in on the back of a trip like that the rate will be very different from trying to get them to pick you up alone.

Sounds like a good deal. Any reason why your quote is low?

Re: cost for ocean transportation via ship

Hi Paul,

For what's its worth, I have a firm quote in hand for 49.000 U.S.D.

It is for a 44' Nauticat shipping from Florida to Australia.

Several other members have mentioned similar pricing.

It seems a red flag when a much lower price is on the table.

You are welcome to see our quote if you wish.

The pricing is from the market leader which also own one of it's competitors.
