Continuous line furler question

I have a code 0 on a continuous line furler on my present boat. When unfurling I heave on one side of the continuous line while easing the other. I have noticed when the sail is part way out that if sufficient tension is not held on the side of the line being eased the half turn of line in the furler will slip and the sail will unfurl without movement of the furling line.

I'm wondering to what extent this needs to be avoided. In light to moderate winds it seems like the sail, once started unfurling, would pull the rest of itself out without much force anywhere in the system. There could be a lot of friction where the furling line is slipping in the drum though.

Is this something to always avoid or something to allow in moderate conditions?

You have already given the answer to your own question. Sufficient tension and all will be OK.

Mine doesn’t do that, or never has anyway, but I don’t see the problem
