Re: Coastguard documentation trasnfer without waiting 6 months

Not sure if this applies. We documented our boat last year. We got a response from the CG within weeks that they'd received and cashed our check. My wife checked their online status site, and it kept saying it was in process. She finally called them after 3 months. At first they said they had no record of our application. When she told them they'd cashed the check, they spent 20 minutes on the phone with her tracking it down. It seems it had been filed under another boat name. In two weeks we had our Doc. certificate. It was simple human error on their part, and persistence on hers that finally got it resolved.

Sounds like you are 'Exchanging' the Doc, as in buying the boat. NVDC is currently processing my ownership transfer which they got 3/18/15. On their website (USCG National Vessel Documentation Center, PDF Page) they give a weekly update of the date they are up to in processing. Currently

National Vessel Documentation Center

Case Processing Dates as of 06/19/15

Fish Initial Application: 06/15/15
Fish Exchange, Reinstatement, and Replacement of COD: 06/05/15
Commercial Initial Application: 06/05/15
Commercial Exchange, Reinstatement, and Replacement of COD: 06/05/15
Recreational Initial Application: 02/24/15
Recreational Exchange, Reinstatement, and Replacement of COD: 02/24/15
Mortgage: 10/23/14
Notices of Claim of Lien: 07/24/14
Satisfactions: 05/06/13
Deletion with fees: 06/11/15
Certificates of Ownership: 06/19/15
Research (Including Complex): 06/14/15
Abstract Processing (Including Abstract Pending Review): 06/14/15

Cost me $8 for Bill of Sale and $84 for Doc Exchange. Looks like they'll get to me in 2 or 3 weeks. Meantime I used the Doc to get local reg and used a notarized copy of old Doc and local Reg to travel Bahamas and TCI
