Chesapeake Bay weather forecast

I'm newbie in Chesapeake Bay and I found grib files not reliable on 80% time.
Is there some weather forecast which work a little bit better for this area?
Thanks.

I find weatherunderground.com good as primarily Chesapeake weather is a function of what's coming across the mainland, usually. Also windguru.cz is especially good.

Re: Chesapeake Bay weather forecast

The NOAA site predictions/forecasts are usually correct -- for at least 30 minutes of a given day.

Weahterunderground, AccuWeather, and local TV station weather apps generally help, at least in the grand scheme of things. Windyty might help for insight into wind conditions and sailing predictions.

A common forecast -- any day in the Summer -- is "whatever whatever whatever with the chance of scattered afternoon thunderstorms."

Otherwise check the buoys (NOAA) and especially the "smart" floating buoys (CBIBS) for specific semi-local conditions.

And watch the radar.

Re: Chesapeake Bay weather forecast

Typical weather forecast (lived aboard 8 years) from May to end of September is as follows - HHH COTS. HAZY, HOT, & HUMID, CHANCE OF THUNDER STORMS. Sometimes they say, 'in the afternoon". Expect the possibility of weather any day. Wise to watch the western sky throughout any trip and keep radio on for instant alerts. Suggest planning to be at destination by 2 pm, drop the hook and jump in. Afternooners & sundowners to follow. Knowing this is standard, plan accordingly and go anyway, leaving earlier, or if it already started, leave afterward, but Go! Best sailing year round anywhere, unless there are the infrequent bergy bits around.

Re: Chesapeake Bay weather forecast

Accuweather and WeatherBug are good resources and I use them for the general weather and radar screens, but SailFlow and Windy are great apps for predicting wind, which is probably as important as anything else to sailboaters and powerboaters alike.
