Re: Cheoy Lee Perry 35 Stern Tube Housing

That’s different than my setup. I’m not able to offer any magic tips or solutions as it’s quite unfamiliar to me. Perhaps a previous owner changed it for me! I only have one cutlass bearing at the aft end of the shaft. I was able to mount my PSS on the old stuffing box.

PSS:
The PSS sounds Great!
Did you like one brand over another???
Any modifications to make to make her work???

Aligning the shaft:
I have NOT had to reinstall the shaft yet - you got me a little scared
So I have to jack up the engine to align the shaft????

Jacking up the engine:
Suggestion:
What about two 4x4s across the floor straddling a car floor jack with a space between
Tie a tow strap under the engine and thread up to the middle of the two 4x4s jack up on the support of the interior floor
It should hold ok
Thoughts?

Did you have to hook up a water supply to your PSS bearing conversion?
If so where did you get the water supply?

If not --
did you cap it? Or do they come without the water port??

You don’t have to jack up the engine to align it. I had to jack up mine to replace the shaft as it would only fit when installed from the inside to the outside.
I looked at several types of dripless and went with PSS as it was more easily obtained locally than some others, and I could get one that fit my situation.

Re: Cheoy Lee Perry 35 Stern Tube Housing

So you kept your old stuffing box and pushed the PSS right up to it?
That's sounds easy
I might even be able to do that

Thanx a bunch for the info!!!!

Yup. The PSS fit over the threaded portion of the old stuffing box. Pretty straightforward. I’m happy I could help!

There is no need for a water supply on slow sailboats like ours. It does have a vent hose IIRC. I found the folks at PYI to be very helpful if you have a setup that’s not covered in the manual.

Re: Cheoy Lee Perry 35 Stern Tube Housing

Does anybody know if GFlex epoxy is appropriate to rebuild this epoxy shim behind stern tube housing?
