Check out a picture of my hot new girlfriend!

She is a 1981 Herreshoff 28 built in San Diego, Ca.
We just bought her yesterday from a retiring English sailor. He has sailed her 2 trans-Atlantic voyages, Africa, Carribean and so many other places.
She is cutter rigged with 12 sails, 2 of which are tan bark.
A new Yanmar 20 hp with 30 hrs.
A Bronze and Teak mini palace.

We absolutely love her, she is due to be splashed tomorrow about lunch time.
She'll be moored right next to our Westsail 32. We'll probably live in this new boat and start on some of the W32 interior wood refit as the Herreshoff needs only varnishing for the most part.

And...... our title reads "no lien".

You'll be living in luxury and can probably even get some sailing in while redoing the Westsail. We lived in a VW bus while building our W32. When we finally moved aboard, felt like we were living in a palace.

Of all the boats I've owned, our H-28 was my favorite. Beautiful lines, sailed well in light airs, and was as comfortable as any boat in winds of 25 knots. We sold her in 1989 and I've regretted it since. She was sold in Essex,CT and I've looked for her ever since.
Old L Francis could sure design a great boat. Enjoy her - Cheers

The retiring 71 year old English gentleman that we bought the boat from bought her in 1988 and says she was built at Staysail Yachts in San Diego, Ca and is out of business but so far I can only find a Staysail Yachts that was located on the Hudson River.

Can anyone tell me how this worked....
Was there (fiberglass) hulls built at one location and sold with plans?
I'm asking because H28's were built everywhere.
Were all hulls cast from one mold?

I new that was a staysail boat! Same as ours but being the fool I am, I painted the hull black. L Francis only a fool paints a hull black...
Ours was from the Hudson - didn't know they also built on West Coast.
I'm on the road now but I'll send a pic as soon as I can.
Yours is the only other "Staysail" boat I know of.

Wow, that's interesting.
Looking forward to your picture.
Btw, Staysail did some awesome work, the deck, coach roof and interior joinery matches or exceeds my Westsail.
What were they using for decking core? It's almost like walking on pavement.

Re: Check out a picture of my hot new girlfriend!

My first love affair. H28. While eating breakfast in a local restaurant some 45 + years back. I was reading a boating mag with my coffee and came across an article about the H28. I had to have one. I looked into the plans and found them in, I think an old copy of rudder. Added everything up as far as cost to build and it was completely cost prohibited. Couple of years later I came across a Cheoy Lee Offshore that was reminiscent of the H 28, enough to satisfy. We cruised the CL33 for seventeen years. But that LFH design is still the best in my mind. Kind of surprised that it is crossing oceans. But there it is. Enjoy. Wonderful boat

That's that. That's what sailing, what any passion, is all about!

Happy sailing!
