Can anyone recommend a good place to purchase charts. I'm looking for charts smaller in size than the full sized print on demand charts. Any input would be great

Contact Megan at Bellingham Chart Plotters - they offer a variety of charts in various sizes. I bought digital and 3/4 size paper charts from them at very competitive prices and their service was excellent. NOAA announced a couple of weeks ago that the trial period of making charts available on line will now be a permanent feature.

Could look into the NOAA Booklet charts. They take large charts and divide them onto multiple pages that can be printed on regular 8.5" x 11" paper.

If you do not have a proper printer, download & store the NOAA charts. Take the files to KINKO and have them printed. They can be sized for any paper you want. Or, buy a Richardson's. Most printers ink is not waterproof so beware.

You can also load the NOAA raster or vector charts on your laptop and download the freeware to make your laptop a chart plotter. This is one of our back-ups.

SeaClear or OPEN CPN They both use the same NOAA charts.

One other option is to get a hand-held GPS with the total suite of NOAA charts pre-loaded. Ours cost 240 on season clearance. Its our low energy preferred plotter 95 % of the time. Two AA batteries for 18 hours.
