Chartplotter Ipad Cell Phone ?

Can anyone recommend a chartplotter for my first sailboat
Its a hunter 33

Im confused with today technologies
people are telling me just use your cell phone or get an ipad so pretty confused

I would probably prefer a bigger touchscreen screen and mounted at the helm but would love to hear some input from actual people using these devices

I was looking at the Simrad GO7 and the garmin 742

iPhones, iPads and other devices are what many people use these days as their go to for navigation. I'd say 90% of younger people I see sailing are using an iPad or an iPhone running Navionics or the like. You just can't beat the price. These devices obviously have their limitations though - fragile, need to download charts beforehand if you'll be sailing out of cell svc, etc.

Download Navionics for your iphone or ipad and see how you like it. It's all the software in a $500-1000 chartplotter for a fraction of the price.

I use an iPhone running Navionics clipped above my Raymarine es78 also running Navionics. Redundancy is a good thing with electronics.

Before I get flamed... make sure you also have your paper charts... and your astrolabe... and your sextant... and your...
