Question Chartering in French Polynesia - monohull or catamaran?

My wife and I are looking at a week-long bareboat charter in French Polynesia; I'm drawn to the monohulls because they are considerably cheaper and will be ample space for just the two of us. I've never been to the area before, but it looks like the lagoons of Bora Bora and some of the other islands are awfully shallow, so I'm not sure, say, a 36' monohull with a ~6-7 ft draft is going to be all that useful.

Does anyone have some experience there that could guide us? We're hoping to save the money and not do a catamaran, but it wouldn't be worth it if it severely limits our options.

You should be fine with a mono as the lagoons are actually very deep for the most part. The back side of Bora Bora is a bit shallow though, I think you can do it with 6' maybe not 7'. Of course a cat is better...

another option is Tonga... if they are still chartering there. Great place. 20-30 anchorages in a 30 mile circle!
