Re: Charter Ownership Sailboats ... What happens to Owner

All valid points, but you did not take into consideration of agreements in which owners pay the maintenance. We are in such an agreement. We have made it crystal clear, we would not compromise on mainatence, and we pay for it! The idea was to take care of little things, pay for it, and hopefully, have a decent used boat in 4-5 years. At least that was our thesis until the damn hurricane....

Re: Charter Ownership Sailboats ... What happens to Owner

Clearly there are many differing opinions expressed here, but if I read your post correctly you are not yet committed. We are four years into the charter business and have seen the good, the bad, and the ugly that the charter companies are capable of. The only risk the charter company takes is not booking your boat. The rest is on you. Irma was a game changer for everyone, and the losses are staggering. If you are not yet committed I would back off and wait for some clarity, which will be quite some time in coming.

Like many I studied the advantages to have a boat half-paid after 5 years which is YOUR BOAT and can't change if not happy with the final result unless you less it at low price...AND a 5 year old charter boat YOU WILL CHOSE because it has been well maintained ( depend on the manager and base) ... HUM ! Bet what I will chose NOW ?
