Cape Cod to Florida
Hello all,
Just wondering if anyone here has ever cruised from Cape Cod area to Florida. I'm thinking of taking my South Coast 22 down the end of June/early July just hopping my way down.
I'm curious if anyone has any ideas at good, free places to stop for the night and so forth.
Fair winds,
Will

Will,
Sounds like a great adventure. Have you any thoughts at all about getting there as far as a route?

Only slightly so far. I would like to head from buzzards bay down to New York City area where I know a place that I can stay. From there I'm not sure of a place in to stay before the Chesapeake where I used to live in Norfolk, so I know plenty of people there. Then I'm thinking of staying in the intercoastal past Hattaras...then perhaps venture back out to open water down to Florida ending in Jacksonville.
I know people in New York and Norfolk, but no where else. So I obviously need some advice as to where to go besides there. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Will

Hi, the anchorage guide is very interesting, although very dated. I'm sure that in some areas it is still useful. For the most up-to-date info, you need "the bible" Skipper Bobs.

Will, when you get to Wilmington/Wrightsville Beach give us a call. Visit with us for a day or so. Hot shower, clean sheets, half-way ok food.
That goes for the rest of you coming down the ditch also. Northbound you're on your own

Rick,
I'm going to be going to Jacksonville for now, a friend there has a place to keep such a small boat.
Those websites about the intercoastal are great, but I would like to do most of it a few miles offshore then swing in. So I need spots no more than 2 days sails from each other to stop, resupply and so forth. I want spots just to duck in, maybe not even the intercoastal, but just a nice spot to stop for the night, or for day or two.

If you come in the Little River Inlet on the NC/SC border, there are some great marinas and a very nice anchorage within a mile of the inlet. It is the North Myrtle Beach area. Great restaurants, great beachs and the best West Marine store...

Re: Cape Cod to Florida
If you need any contacts here in Jacksonville, let me know and I'll get the info for you. I was looking for a way to get from Jacksonville to Cape Cod rather than just driving, for a visit with my sister in Falmouth when I saw your post! So anything needed here, let me know, and I may ask you info about up there - thanks!

Re: Cape Cod to Florida
We were advised to purchase inlet Chartbook: southeastern United States. It covers Chesapeake to Miami. Same as you, we wanted advise for the outside not the inside. This booklet covers all the places you can duck inside if and when you need to. It covers inlets the NOAA charts don't show.
