Can't take much more of this global warming

Harrumph! Got up this a.m. at eight and saw -5 F on the thermometer. Three hours later it reads -10. No relief forecast for tomorrow. BUT there is a really great 20 knot wind for the rest of the day!

That's what you get for hanging out in Ohio.

Yeah Yeah but I leave for Whidbey Island on the 23rd of this month. Keep a boat at the Oak Harbor Marina. Keep my wife in Ohio so I have to "visit" here at least six months of the year.

Its hovering right around freezing on the left coast - frost on the dock @ Newcastle Island this morning. Later in the week it will warm up again (and start raining again). It beats being in SK this time of year.

You guys are lucky, it's January, do you have any idea how much it costs to run the AC down here?

Sheesh, some people don't know how good they got it.

Just so we're clear, I absolutely was NOT complaining. We love winter cruising in the PNW. The docks and anchorages are empty, the radio is quiet, the chandleries are happy to see a real live customer. Last night we had a wonderful halibut potluck with the only other boat on the dock and the park super - winter boating is really great.

Re: Can't take much more of this global warming

Here in north central Florida on the St. Johns River, our overnight forecast is for 20 degrees with wind chill in the single digit. If you actually look at the science, global warming has been attributed to colder winters and more snow events. As the polar ice caps melt, it allows the Polar Vortex to weaken and plunge south. It's a little more complex than just that but we can expect more winters like this in the future. So the plan is to move farther south. Chuck

Geez Tbrad, it's colder there than in Homer. I feel for you.

It's been freezing every night and very little wind for quite a long time here on Whidbey.
Currently, partly sunny and 30 F. NO wind.

That should help with the air conditioning bills.
-43c (49 f) wind chill here at 10 am. No aircon bills this month.

Re: Can't take much more of this global warming

We just had 38 cm of snow with > 100 kph winds and we lost our power for 14 hours, on for 4 hours and off for another 11 hours. I want to burn my snowblower to stay warm but, alas, I have to use it again when I get home. Good news is, I am off to Deltaville, VA on January 25 to sail down the AICW to get to Nassau as soon as I can.

Re: Can't take much more of this global warming

Yesterday was 68f and sunny. I worked on my boat. I decided to stay home today because it is 54f and overcast. I guess I don't know how good I got it.
