The various "Bumblebees" (up to Bumblebee V) were owned and raced by John Kahlbetzer and were rather well known but the renaming story sounds like a little bit of yacht club Bee Ess, no? Or maybe not!

Are you (Maren) suggesting that merely coining a euphemism for rectum (et al) would materially change it’s odour - that a rectum, by another name, might not smell as ... er, whatever?
Methinks J Roger, anjou, & W Shakespeare got it about right.

strategic renaming
I've been thinking of changing my boat's name to "West Marine." That way I won't have to pay for custom monogramming on weather gear">foul weather gear, et cetera.

I forwarded the info provided by Dave the Canuck to my elderly friend (as it seemed to be what he was looking for), he marched over to the new owner with it and they had a lovely renaming ceremony. Thanks, Dave.

It might be better if he changed the name of his kids...no superstitions broken them!

Or the extremely bored....
Either way if he had started a new thread about it at least a hand full of other extremely bored guys would've complained that he didn't read this thread first....
Of course if that did happen there would have been at least a few other even more bored guys that would've complained about that too....
And then even more exceptionally bored guys would have complained about the complainers.......
Is it summer yet? We all really need to go sailing or something......

Re: Can You Force Buyer to Change Boat Name?
Maybe we need to check in with SailingMonica to see if the renamed boat was struck by lightning / run aground on rocks / dismasted / destroyed in a propane explosion / attacked by Somali pirates on the lake . . . . thus proving the so-called "superstition."

Re: Can You Force Buyer to Change Boat Name?
Post sale = no.
pre sale the easiest way is to change boat name yourself.
Of course that requires a bit of foresight, so not a route open to all..........
