Can u identity this sailboat?

Saw this old boat in a “bone yard” in Demopolis. Curious as to the manufacture and or approx age. Does anyone have any insight as to the history of this boat in particular or the model etc...? Has really interesting metal decorative inserts & nav lights...I have several photos. Will try to upload several here... thank you, POC (Great Loop started 11/1/19)

Re: Can u identity this sailboat?

looks like a chinese junk, the bow arrangement is common on junks.
also the diamond cut outs on the rudder are common on junks
could be from gulf of thailand, vietnam, hong kong origin

if it is built from teak then it would almost certainly be of SE asian origin

depending on the size many traditional junks would also have a smaller mast near the bow as well as the main mast

Looks to me like a nondescript wood hull to which someone applied Chinese junk features.

Would that make it a heap-of-junk?

in two of the photos of the deckhouse ,the bare planking and grain definitly looks like teak

given the cost of teak planks,it is not a material you would use if it was built in north america, which makes me believe it is authentic and built in se asia

Or a junk heap?

If the boat won't float anymore a salvager might have a field day collecting many goodies off something like that.

Re: Can u identity this sailboat?

looks like there were quite a few junks imported to the uk in the 60's
notice the similarities with the bow and the rudder assembly to the pictures posted by the op
and the destinctive knobs on the guard rails which are the same as in the video

That's the 'SPRAY'. You know, The 'SPRAY' that Joshua Solcum sailed around the world alone with a One Dollar Clock and The Pilot Of The Pinta his Navigator. They just don't make Sailors like Ole Joshua anymore, do they?

Im familiar with the boat in Demopolis boat yard. I have a trimaran in the old city marina, not the new kingfisher.
So you’re on the loop ?
I go up to Demopolis from Mobile to work on the trimaran . Ican try to find out more about the relic.

Re: Can u identity this sailboat?

Be wary of old Asian boats. Teakwood is best description for many, not actual team, often an Iroko, quite brittle.
Common build methods use mild steel ‘nails’ to join planks that are edge jointed, after some years, the water penetration causes rust, swelling and failure of both nail and adjacent plank. As these are edge jointed, you can not draw nails and check/replace.
I hasten to say this is not universal, just a common, cheap construction that may occur throughout Asian yards.
