Can anyone identify this boat please?

Hi all, my first post here and hopefully many more to come.

I'm a beginner at all of this so please forgive my ignorance...

I'm thinking of buying this boat as a friend of mine is selling it but I don't know what brand or model it is so I'm wondering would anyone on here know?
Please see pic, thanks.

Check the aft section of the Hull for a HIN(Hull identification number) if not there check inside the cabin.
Usually its stamped on the starboard side of the transom, when you find it post it on here as that will ID the builder and make things easier.
Lotta work ahead if you buy it..

What boatman61 said.

There might also be a tag or plate inside in the galley or engine compartment?

Boat has nice lines, and looks like it might be of European design.

Settle for $500 but don't take the boat until he pays you.

Don't know what the boat is but I actually like the design. Does it have mast and rigging and sails? A $160 electric pressure washer will do wonders for that boat as a start.
Welcome aboard BTW!

First, welcome to the forum. Secondly if there is no paper work identifying the boat...run! If there is no mast, rigging or sails...run!
You will be MUCH further ahead buying a boat ready to sail, of that size, on a trailer.

Now that's funny!

Re: Can anyone identify this boat please?

I'm actually in Ireland, Happy Saint Patrick's day to you all

Yes the boat is in Ireland so European design, the seller my friend is selling to me for €450 around $480 and comparing it to other boats on websites here for sale it looks like a good bargain.

I don't know anything about boating at all, my partner and I recently moved house and we now live right beside a network of canal's and the boat is right outside our back door on the canal, so it would be mainly used along the canal's here in Ireland, maybe go onto the river Shannon at some stage. The seller says the mast is somewhere he would have to find it.

I'm more interested in putting on a outboard 8 or 10hp engine on it, though there is a big rudder at the back. It will be a great learning experience I guess. Thanks to all who have replied so far.

Note that a small sailboat without a mast rolls like a football down a Kildare hill with the least provocation (like the wake of a passing rowboat).

I think he said 26 ft though I'm not 100% on that

So are you saying that it can't really be used on canal's?

If its a lifting keel or shallow bilge keeler you should be okay in many but a fin keel no.
Bit thrown by the offset companionway, pretty unusual as 95%+ have a central companionway.

Also agree about a fin keel.

Am guessing LOA is in the 25+ range. Saw the off-set companionway and the raised portion inboard - am guessing that's where the inboard engine is.

It’s cheap enough....
Somehow it navigated it’s way to the current berth so it’s draft must not have exceeded the canals depth at one point. It’s cheap....and already in your back yard.
Does it bob around a bit when you step onboard? That would mean it’s a light weight and will point to Rolly.
Ask the owner if he knows what it is? What keel it has?
Go search for pictures of the cabins of “swing keel” “lifting keel” boats. You’ll see a trunk the keel lifts into. Does that boat have one?
Could it be a twin keeler? Not all fixed keels are equal. As long as you mind the depth a fixed keel in a canal / river is not a problem.

Is it worth it?
Thats up to you, but, it’s almost free, it’s on your canal wall, you want to learn boat life.

Re: Can anyone identify this boat please?

The current owner doesn't know the manufacturer or the model?

Does he have a title?

You're going to spent another 450 on cleaning solutions and brushes. Does it have any equipment, sails, etc?

Most bargain boats aren't.
