CAL 2-27 Transmission Shift Cable

Does anyone know the part number for the transmission shift cable for a 1975 CAL 2-27. I recently bought this boat and I am in the processing of making some needed repairs.

Most any good marine store should have one. Even West Marine. Or a repair guy near a marina.

Exactly. None of the boat builders makes their own cables. Just like the engines, the builder buys them from a company that specializes like Teleflex-Morse.

As Cheechako says, measure the cable that's in there and order a Teleflex replacement from Defender or your local boat supply store.

You should also check the bracket and fittings on the ends of the cable and order replacements for those at the same time if the old ones look worn at all.

If you are uncertain of the details of the exact cable you need you can find pictures and information on the various models online. The main difference between different versions of the Teleflex cables are size and a more expensive cable that will take a tighter bend for installations that have routing issues. Since there are so many different lengths might be tricky to find the exact cable in stock but West certainly sells them. I ordered mine online from Defender Industries.

I usually just remove the old one and take it with me. You can use a longer one if needed often... just depends on how it's routed.

Good point. I did that in my install. Ordered a cable 1 ft longer than the original and changed the routing a bit to give better access to the port side of the engine.

Later: I should say though, if the length you have works well, use that, sometime a foot longer with the stiff cable can be problematic if the "furniture" around it is close.

Yes, mine will have to pretty close in length as there is not much wiggle room the way it needs to be routed.

I will not be able to pull the cable until Friday evening. Will update once I have it sorted out and let everyone know the resolution.

Teleflex makes many of these as well as replacements for others. I got lucky and founds a replacement for mine on Amazon for 14 bucks. If you look on the plastic outer sheath, you will find the part number stamped in the plastic. You will need a bright light.
