BVI to FL Delivery costs

Over the next couple of months I will be putting an offer on a boat. I am beginning to consider boats in the caribbean, more specifically the BVI (Tortola). If I end up going with a boat there, it will have to be moved immediately to FL where I live. Have no contacted any companies to inquire about prices, but does anyone have any rough idea as to the cost involved in a delivery from BVI to south east FL? I would like a ballpark number so that when I see a boat that costs X I can factor in that ballpark number into the final cost.

That should run you about 3500.00 for a captain and crew plus fuel, flights, provisioning plan on about 350,00 food 500.00 flights

or you could just get a couple of friends & do it yourself - it's "downhill" compared to going eastbound.........not that bad at all = did it back in '08 as crew

I've done it a couple of times. Its 1100 downhill miles, so figure around $3,000 including expenses.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like is much less that I had anticipated. What is "Dockwise"? What do you mean by lift on/off?

Dockwise delivers boats by ship... as deck cargo... costs can be reasonable if over a distance.. lose nothing by checking them out now than changing your mind later...

Dockwise - they submerge their loading area allowing boats to motor in. Once all the boats are in place, they pump the water out, complete securing all the boats & sail away. The process is reversed upon arrival.

Sevenstar + Peters & May - You motor along side the ship & a crane on the ship lowers a cradle & straps - once in place (a diver assists) - the crane lifts the boat onto the ship, the boat is secured. The process is reversed upon arrival.

Dockwise is a good way to go on an upwind delivery where the potential for cost overruns is higher with a delivery crew. For instance if they were to be dismasted etc... Lots of wear and tear on the boat as well. But for a short downwind sail a good delivery crew would cost a lot less.

Let me know if you need a hand with anything over here, I know all the local brokers and surveyors and have acted as "owner's rep" for many boats, particularly ones coming out of charter fleets.
