Re: Bought a 29 foot cat-ketch low tech boat

Open the attachment for information about Egret. I think it is worth a few minutes in just respects to commercial boating. This was a workboat designed for a specific usage.

I think this is more likely based on the iconic Munroe's Egret.

Re: Bought a 29 foot cat-ketch low tech boat

Great boat congratulations! She looks beautiful. As for the wood burning stove/heater, use some news papers and small bits of hardwood. Wad up the paper place wood on top and light. A friend had a Tiny Tot in a Bayfield 32 and it was great to have the dry warm heat on cooler nights. Just be careful when disposing of ashes, and make sure the chimney doesnt have any major leaks and you should be good to go.

Be very very careful with camp stoves used inside the boat. I know lots of people do it but it isn't the safest practice. If you read the directions they are not designed to be used in enclosed spaces. This means they have very little to no safety features. That and they are built very cheap. I've had one camp stove suddenly decide to shoot flames 3ft high from a burner with no warning. I also had a camp grill do the same thing in the cockpit of my old Oday 22.

As an alternative look at something like the Origo stoves. Very simple, no chance of sudden flare ups ect. There are also some decent butane stoves but the fuel can get pricey if you use it alot.

Good luck and fair winds.

Re: Bought a 29 foot cat-ketch low tech boat

Just a few more photos then I have to try and regain focus. Well it sounded good in my mind when I thought about that. Well, uh, what was I saying a minute ago?

Egret on Marshall beach. Second photo is make shade. Notice the simplistic style of these old boats. Nothing high tech. I think I have a lot to "unlearn" from my racing days and multihull days. Excited to learn something old style.

The previous owner was speaking to me about the mizzen mast boom and how it is set up. He mentioned a "snotter line".....I said, "WHAT Did you just say?"

I have included two last pic of as good of a look at it as is possible with pictures sent on to me. You can see the boys working on it..
