he needs to pick up some parts on Thursday before he leaves the canal
without a proper crew going over the top would probably be risky, and it adds lots of miles, but would have got him a lot farther west when the gales come through on Friday.
dover really is a bottle neck as the wind and waves make it very hard to get through if the wind and currents are against you.

I did a weather routing and myself, If I had to pick this time to travel. would have gone Scotland. Sometimes better to eat miles and get the weather.
Dover is going to be a Pig even in good weather... There is always something to ensure going the wrong route, in this case, picking up parts.......
He will have to decide when he exits the Canal if he doesnt make it by Friday.

Alex....
Bet you a pint of Doom Bar, it dissipates by the time he is in the Chanel,
I wouldn't go round the top, the risk of temptation of Scottish and Irish distilleries in every safe haven would be to much to ask!
