Plus they will close the Bay Bridge if the winds exceed 40-50kts. With a car you can at least drive somewhere else if you can't get back to your hotel.
I just checked with them about Mathew. Show is still a go and they are keeping an eye on it and only expecting rain on Sunday.
I'm heading home Sunday morn, so all good. For me at least

Re: Boat show, taxi or car rental?

Annapolis can get some nasty storm surge at times if hurricanes even get close, & it's not as if the place has much "freeboard". For example, downtown normally has 3-4' (max) at high tide. So changes in the water levels really complicates things. To the point where if much surge does impact the Chesapeake, you may need a gondola or submarine to get to the show.

I've seen water at the top of the seawall at USNA a few times, when hurricanes got within a few hundred miles. And they've had to have the Midshipmen move ALL of their cars to a safer location a number of times. Plus moving the sailing team's boats & those across the river at the Naval Station, to safety as well.

So keep an eye on the weather.

Boat show, taxi or car rental?

We are flying into Baltimore on Thursday night planning to fly out on Sunday. We are staying in Annapolis. Anyone planning to attend the Sailing South all day seminar on Sunday? We just signed up a couple of days ago.. the Shards and Nigel Calder are scheduled to present.

See if your hotel provides a shuttle to the boat show. Ours did. Uber also is handy.

Re: Boat show, taxi or car rental?

you can rent a car and park in Eastport. Several churches and the Eastport Elementary School offer parking (average $20/day). At the school it's a PTA fundraiser and I like to know where my parking money goes! See you all there...

I agree with Islander36Kairo. We have done this several times now and find it the easiest solution. They are very well organized at the stadium and the busses run continuously all day right to the boat show gates. If I remember, it was about $10 a day to park at the stadium and the shuttles are free.
