Boat registration/Flagship ?

Hopefully about to realize a life long dream to begin cruising/live aboard, waiting to hear if my offer will be accepted by the present owner...
I wish to obtain input/advise regarding best way or option as far as registering the boat once acquired.
Boat is presently in the low windward islands under a British flag. I reside in the US and possess both a French and a Canadian citizenship...
From a commercial point of view (may be later...) I do hold a RYA yacht master and a OUPV (six pack) US coast guard license.
Not sure what would be the best course of action as far as registering the boat .
Any input is welcome, thank you for your time and hopefully shall cross paths on the high seas.

Yeah, not sure how you could have an OUPV if you don't hold a U.S. passport.

Nor can you document the boat with the United States if you are not a U.S. citizen.

Re: Boat registration/Flagship ?

Six pack is ok for a non-citizen, or used to be.
Any higher license and you have to be a US Citizen.
As for the boat, it can not be Documented to a non US Citizen.

Boats built out of the US are generally not to be used in commerce in US waters; in addition to the other issues noted in previous posts. As a general rule most countries restrict non citizens from working without some type of papers.

I know some folks "charter" their boats by accepting "expenses" from others but if you get caught you can lose your boats; especially in third world countries.

Re: Boat registration/Flagship ?

Are you looking to charter? Or just mentioning your qualifications?

If it is SSR and you have an address in the U.K. I would keep it SSR. You'll get a cruising permit good for 1 year when entering the US.
