Re: Boat Name Poll--2 choices

I like them both. Chakana will likely not be used by other boats. I think I've seen Cool Change before. Yeah.... I had the same problem with other people pronouncing a boat named Cheechako...! You know who your friends are ont he radio though... they get it right!
Cheechako: PNW indian for "tenderfoot" or "newcomer"
My first offshore cruiser was named "Looking Glass". It seemed like I always had some guy coming to the boat wanting to know if I had been with the Strategic Air Command or been on the Flying Command Post. I told them "no... I was thinking more of Alice in Wonderland's adventure"

Re: Boat Name Poll--2 choices

Chakana. It has a special meaning. Depending how you pronounce it. It could have this meaning too.

The terms Chicano/Chicana (also spelled Xicano/Xicana) are occasionally used in reference to U.S. citizens of Mexican descent. However, those terms have a wide range of meanings in various parts of the world. The term began to be widely used during the Chicano Movement, mainly among Mexican Americans, especially in the movement's peak in the late 1960s and early 1970s. For Mexicans, "Chicano" meant "poorest of the poor" but during the Civil Rights movement, they used the word to unite themselves.

kind regards,

I prefer Chakana.

I always wanted to name my boat FUC$ You. Can hear the VHF banter now....cruising Long Island sound would sound like an Abbott & Costello routine.

Re: Boat Name Poll--2 choices

Spent a bit of time cruising around the Bahamas along with a boat named Ribbit, so we were always calling on the radio "Ribbit, Ribbit." Got lots of comments about that all the time.

It wouldn't stop me, but I have listened in on several Mayday situations where there was a real problem due to the boat name being hard to understand over the airwaves, or else it sounded like fifteen other boats in the vicinity. However, these days one of the first things the CG seems to do is ask for your cell phone number.

Go with Chakana, the story behind can probaly get you a few free drinks. A stylized symbol for your shirts etc either of the Inca cross or the stars. It is you and unique.

I always liked the name of your boat - nice ring to it. Now that I know what it means, I like it even more.

We named our boat Moon Snail. Many said it was stupid. It was easy to say and we had fun with it. Short and your own. Chakana it is.
PS It's not a Jewish holiday is it? ...giggle...

Chakana.
Cool Change feels like Dulce Vita, Wet Dream, and so many other common boat names.
