Boat Ashore, Vero Beach

My brother-in-law took this picture today at Vero Beach, FL. Does anyone know the boat or the story behind it. Looks like they've come a long way to a sad ending.

Interesting the sails are furled and main covers on.

But the flag is shredded.

Re: Boat Ashore, Vero Beach

What's all the detritus off the stern? The stern ladder is down as though they left that way, but it may have deployed in the crackup coming ashore.

I wonder if any of the PNW CF'ers recognize the boat.

Boat is US documented:
Vessel Documentation Query

Former owner has a f-book page, states the boat was sold 1/27 in Stuart, FL to a cash buyer:

Excellent research! Many thanks. It sounds like the current owners are nearer to the endgame. Stuart is less than 50 miles south of Vero Beach.

Re: Boat Ashore, Vero Beach

Sad and rough start for new owners, But looks like it is in soft sand so hopefully not too damaged or too wet inside...

Gotta wonder if it was falling asleep underway, or maybe a heart attack. Otherwise, why not drop an anchor if they lost power.

Off the stern that looks like the hull of the dinghy.
See the photo of the boat on the facebook page of the po.

Re: Boat Ashore, Vero Beach

My guess is that they were cruising close inshore and the engine died on them and before you know it they were up on the beach, unable to get the engine started.

Yes my guess would be she was anchored and something parted or dragged but only a guess. Relatively local boat, it's in Florida and has US registration although it is west coast. Could be that they where mot used to east coast weather and conditions.

Re: Boat Ashore, Vero Beach

I dunno, anchoring or mooring a 30-footer in the Atlantic Ocean off Vero Beach doesn't seem very likely...
