Binnacle Placement

Hi, Himself and I were browsing boats on the 'net and ran across something we haven't seen before; A wheel helm mounted PARALLEL to the keel instead of at the usual 90°s... It's on a tri with a center cockpit.
33ft Trimaran (Brown Piver combination)
Anyone ever seen anything like this?

Re: Binnacle Placement

Not a wheel - but I had engine controls (throttle & gears - seperate levers for each) that went accross, rather the the usual forward for faster (and in gear) etc.

Took a while to get used to. especially in close quarters!

Re: Binnacle Placement

Great idea for walking past when in harbour and could be interesting at sea. Couldn't see it on a yacht school boat though.

Re: Binnacle Placement

I once saw pictures of a Searunner Tri with a pivoting wheel. This might be a variation on that.
