Yeah, the guy I was visiting is indeed a very good friend from a long way back. He said he wouldn't have opened the bottle for just anyone. We drank it neat, at room temperature. It was smooth and a bit smokey. But again: I don't usually drink whiskey so I'm not the best judge. But I can say that it was far, far better than the Old Crow I had as a young ne'er-do-well. [shudder]

Cheers!

40 creek. It's a bargain and it's tasty. There was a single malt I've tried to find again but never have, very slightly sweet, lots of smoke flavour and smooth as glass. Bought the bottle for a friend's wedding, he cracked it a few years later.

The best whiskey is chilled with the use of cold stones, not ice.

I have a set of these, can't say I'm impressed. They look like black granite, they impart a 'stoney' aftertaste to the whiskey, they absorb flavor, so you need specific stones for specific whiskeys, and if all that's not enough, they pick up a 'freezer burn' taste from the freezer.

2 thumbs down.

Re: Best Whiskey

Blended whiskey called Old Thompson, cheap but in blind taste testing you cannot tell it from Crown. A dash of Coke and you're off to the races... Of course any Flor de Caña 7 years on up is on board =)

That is in fact true though. The Ferrari is 20x better than the Civic. Actually more like 50x better. Just that most people can’t discern or take advantage of the difference. No professional would buy a Harbor Freight welder either.

Better, at/for what? They're, obviously targetted at different markets/needs.
As with most things, that might depend upon your criteria.
A better comparison would be made between autos, aimed at a similar market [ie: pick any number of luxury sedans, at differing price points].

I agree that the Ferrari is a lot better for sporty driving, but for going to work, get some groceries, drive in winter weather, I would prefer the Civic.

Ultimately, the crew came back mostly empty-handed, without finding the 350 barrels of whiskey or knowing if the shipwreck they discovered was the one they had set out to find. However, The WESTMORELAND was found in 2010 by Ross Richardson at the bottom of Platte Bay, near Traverse City. Sadly, it did not contain any gold or whiskey.

So, it was actually six men and a dog - and they accomplished nothing.
