Trust me, my time this evening hardly qualifies as "valuable", and I probably found that image in a Google search in less than a minute, two at the most...

:-)

Re: Best Cruising Sailboats for Couples

It's been mentioned, but I keep coming back to the Neel 65 with a custom layout. I am not sold on the published one, but since only a few boats have been ordered it shouldn't be a huge issue to have it custom done. Mostly I would eliminate drawn staterooms and add either more open area storage and certainly a work room.

But I love the private owners suit, the in hull dinghy storage, and the bridgedeck saloon.

What is ideal for a cruising boat is a boat you live in, they call those 'houseboats'. Not a sport challenging sailing boat, not a speed thrill boat, a houseboat.

A traditional houseboat is not designed for an ocean passage.
So a cruising boat is a house boat designed for an ocean passage.

I posted my choice as of now with unlimited budget it is a NEEL 65 sans sails.
With a limited budget, it is a NEEL 65 built for $25k.

With $200k budget, this one looks like the winner:
50' CATAMARAN/HOUSEBOAT , BEST LIVEABOARD/CRUISING

:-) I see your point but.... would you be happy living in a trailer park?

Not moi!!! Oooh NO!

Actually sailorboy, While I don't recall having seen pics of the inside, it seems to me that the Flyin' Hawaiian meets most of your demands, although its sailing abilities are questionable

Just kidding

ONe item you posted, that no one has commented on is oversized winches. I can only agree with you here, and I'm surprised that boat manufacturers haven't figured this one out yet.

None of us are getting any younger, and if we want more women to begin sailing, it is a showstopper when the winches need a strapping 20 something year old to haul the sails in.

I know it adds cost, but by going up 1 or 2 sizes, the winching part becomes easy, both for us older geezers and for the women who like to sail. I do realize that electric winches exist, but they are costly and just one more item to maintain. I suspect electric winches are more expensive than going up a size or two

Our books have gotten 5 star reviews on Amazon. Several readers have written "I never thought I would go on a circumnavigation, but when I read these books, I was right there in the cockpit with Vinni and Carsten"

I already spent my time on submarines. Of course the one I was on was able to surface each time.

Just curious, did you start this thread because you are seriously contemplating replacing your Hunter 410 before going cruising?

No because I don't have the budget to do so. Just figured it would make a worthwhile topic and other than my posting some items I thought would be important to the question is wasn't about me at all. But I didn't really expect it to attract so many hate type posters.

I feel your pain. You have to have a thick skin to post anything on the internet including this site. I think some people don't realize how rude their comments can come off when written. Then some people are rude intentionally. 2 things I love: your opinion is just an opinion, my opinion is a fact & if I've never had a problem with something it's completely reliable & no one can ever have a problem with it.
