Bareboat Year Does Not Match Year Made

In chartering a bareboat they tell you the advertised year of the boat in the contract. While sailing you check in/out of customs providing boat documentation. This boat documentation used for C&I contains the actual year the boat was made.

My question is it common for bareboat charter companies to advertise a boat is a 2016, for example, and you find out the official boat documentation used for C&I says the boat was built in 2012?

More than 1 year difference seems wrong to me. What do you think?

Dont know if its common, but it sure would have pissed me off. I would consider the year as relevant information when comparing to other options and considering the price. Sounds worthy of a mention in any online review if the opportunity is there.

I could accept "year of manufacturing" versus "year or season when entered into service".... Much the same as they do with new cars in Australia. But that would give you a max discrepancy of say 6 months maybe.

Unless you paid a 2 year old boat charter fee and were given a 6 year old boat.
