Bahamas to Marquesas

Hi Friends,
Planning a passage from the Bahamas to the Marquesas.
PLan is to leave southern Bahamas (long Island) in mid April
sail south, nonstop through the Windward passage then south southwest
to the San Blas for a few days then over to Colon for a trip through
the Canal. We then plan to leave mid May for a nonstop passage to the
Marquesas. Cornell's book says we should expect East/Southeast winds
this time of year to Panama.
On the Pacific passage winds also steady East/ South East
with a west setting current.
Cornell says May is Primo time to go.
Most likley stay in FP for a year or so
As an aside, are the Tuamotus which are the aprx same longitude
as the Marquesas in the Cyclone region?
Just a quick check on my reading of all the various resources.
All comments, advice and local knowledge would be appreciated.
Experienced sailors, Well kitted and prepared Catamaran
with Oxley Downwind sail
just no experience in the Pacific
Cheers
Neil

Coming out of Panama City you can (at that time of year) run into winds head on. We tacked into close to gale force for 10 days before reaching Galapagos. Easy passage to Marquesas - stay above 5 degrees south and you won't run into any storm. Cross the doldrums as soon as possible

The tuamotus are not in a hurricane safe area. the Marquesas are.

We made the passage in 2017 stayed in the Marquesas for 18 months and loved it

Our books have gotten 5 star reviews on Amazon. Several readers have written "I never thought I would go on a circumnavigation, but when I read these books, I was right there in the cockpit with Vinni and Carsten"
