Of courses, The Masses help facilitate that by being so obsessively connected to social media.

Oh wait...Im on a social media site...and the air seems to be getting a bit thin...whats that pop up say?..."Click LIKE to breath"...OMG! 😉
'm too tight for, pay to air TV,currently watching robo cop on the free tv brainwashing channel......but it is sad when a platform like youtube who built its viewer base from viewer produced videos freely uploaded onto their server, and so quickly forgets how they evolved, by hosting content from a wide variety of uploaders, many with way lees than 10k views on posted content, but non the less led to the overall growth of youtube as an entity.

People can post their videos elsewhere, they're not the only game in town. Even this site generates revenue from ads. Vloggers upload content, if people watch it they also see targeted advertisements. How is this assuming any right to some other businesses resources? The monetization of videos was YouTube's agreement. They simply amended that agreement to say that unless you're above 10,000 views they will no longer pay the ad fees, but they continue to play ads on your work.

Change is the only constant. Things evolve. Dont like it then start your own...thats how NetFlix began...by a disgruntled Block Buster customer.

Re: Bad News for YouTube bloggers

Oh well,
Does anyone really care?

One of the great things about YouTube is that whenever I want do something for the first time I go to YouTube to see if and how someone has done it before. I'm beniffiting for from all those peoples hours of toil.
So I must say "Thankyou YouTube Bloggers"

Me fishing yesterday
Sailing today
Resting Sunday
Working on club boat Monday.
Fishing Tuesday
Rafting up with friends Wednesday.
That's life after 70.
I might find something on YouTube. Maybe a movie.
Way too busy though.

Cheers have a good weekend.
Please encourage more sailing in your area.

Re: Bad News for YouTube bloggers

Seems like an ok move to me.

10,000 lifetime views is not much in the grand scheme of things, and allows people to watch new channels and videos without being annoyed by ads.

Yes, you've got that exactly right. They aren't losing anything by making the change. It's likely better to go back to the old style of advertising by placing ads directly into the videos. It just makes for more work on the developer /producer. It also means that once the ad is there it will always be the same, even if the business fails or goes out of business. I'm sure YouTube would eventually stop this as it cuts them out of the loop.

No piss off...just seems like much ado about a minor administrative decision to me.

thats not what we are seeing over here this side of the atlantic with all these companies registered in tax havens like luxembourg,i see uber just got shafted with the thin edge of the wedge in london, this set a a precedent the writing is on the wall,it will not belong before the likes of google etc start having to be more transparent about paying tax.

I really find that hard to believe

Minor administrative decisions, aka 'money grabbing', like twitter did, see what happened to that, and like those morons at photobucket did, will kill this component off

personally I feel like Ive gained more from these minor producers than the likes of youtube ever did, ymmv

limiting incentive ultimately amounts to a community loss. One for which there is no other avenue to return. Sure ppl will post 'stuff' similar in subject nature but from the biased corporate side.

Without incentive, prime to our competitive world in 'every other venture', consistency and quality will disappear, and eventually the following. Plain cause and effect

There is of course this intangible (non monetary) value to such postings. YouTube has chosen to remove the meager profit incentive from them, but they are not prohibited from posting.

I suspect those posters will continue, because they obviously are not in it for the money.

Case in point, CF is a business too, lots of us participate here for the intangible benefit with no expectation of financial benefit.

u suspect

there is nothing in our predictive history that sustains this
no incentive = no committent = why bother
