From a few different sources I have heard that for some reason this season on the
Chesapeake Bay the barnacle growth is far greater than average. I began asking around as my boat's bottom is fouled and I will have the
boat hauled and bottom painted in a couple of weeks. I thought it would be good until the end of the season.
What really made me
was hearing about people having their bottom painted this past spring and within two months needing to have the bottom cleaned again due to
barnacles.
Part of the issue may have been the ban on recreational
boating for some two months, though that would only impact bottoms with ablative
paint.
