No you have it wrong Ziggy, we zip downwards from top to bottom.

At least we do actually change gears unlike the majority of our cousinbrothers across the Pond who stick it in D and forget about it after that. Bit like the handbrake too which American's seem to think is a funny lever in the middle that does nothing.

But then you call it gas and we call it petrol, you cover your biscuits in gravy we dunk them in our tea.

Oddly though and no one actually knows why but per 100,000 journeys there are less fatal accidents when driving on the Left (UK/Aus/NZ etc) side of the road than on the Continental/US/Can side of the road.

But a backwards zipper would annoy me no end[/QUOTE]

And I'm sure the Brits get just as confused when they drive over here. On the other hand, the rest of Europe drives on the right so most Brits are probably used to it.

Had an Engineer from Avia propeller visit once and we drove the Wife’s car which is I believe the first stick shift Cadillac in 50 years.
He asked why it wasn’t an automatic as he had noticed all cars in the US were, I told him it was because it was a sports car, he grinned and said that all cars in Czech must be sports cars then

Or just wear it inside out.

This change must be new. My Gil ocean jacket has the pull on the right.

And being left-handed, right side pull is just another insidious strategy for bamboozling us right-brainers, like scissors. Maybe Gil has become politically aware. Or their new CEO is left-handed, or something.

Re: Backwards zippers on foulies?

Is this a major issue in the larger scheme of things? Is this right up there with buttoned flies or zipped? Or would it compare better to cancer or dying of thirst in the doldrums?

My advice: It's not worth the emotional load or the pending heart attack. Change is the universal constant. Get over it!

Re: Backwards zippers on foulies?

My take - forget "change is given, get used to it". Silly advice - thats how people get away with seliing cheaper and cheaper stuff, till your 1/2 gallon of ice cream is now 3 quarts, cloth is thinner, sneakers fall apart in months, etc.
Drop Gill an email, stating how you wont be buying their gear due to zipper shift..... Enough folks do that, we'll see change all right.

Re: Backwards zippers on foulies?

We lived in the north of England for 5 years, Cockermouth and Hartlepool. Every zipped jacket I bought there had the zipper slider on the "wrong" side. Even in the US my wife has her jackets' slider on the "wrong" side. I am no longer sure what is "right" and what is "wrong".

I'm 68 and think my UK "wrong side of the road" driving licence is no longer valid, but I have a valid Tennessee licence that I have used to drive on the left in the Bahamas. It all works.

I only wish my half gallon of ice cream was 3 quarts.

Did you give him a kick in the panties?

WTF let’s just make winches that turn in reverse and thru hulls with up being closed.

It's not just fouliies. They changed it on almost every jacket out there. Hate it!!!

Re: Backwards zippers on foulies?

I don't know about zippers, but if your buttons are on the wrong side, how would you draw your sabre to fend off the screaming hordes from the Mongolian steppes?

Re: Backwards zippers on foulies?

It's probably to standardise their zips to make manufacturing easier. Seems a bit silly to have two types, just for men and women.

I'm left-handed so everything is backwards anyway to me
