Avon seasport 3.45 + yamaha 55hp 2 stroke

Hi everyone,

Just a quick stupid question if you don’t mind..

So I acquired a great condition Avon seasport 3.45 and I already have a Yamaha 55hp but I’m told these ribs are 40hp max. 😔 I see there isn’t much weight different, so doesn’t it really matter?

I’ll regularly have 3-4 normal sized people on board

Thanks for looking!

I purchased a used dinghy that was rated for 8hp. Since the only difference between a Yamaha 10 and a 15 is the carburetor, the previous owner bought the 15 hp. This led to the transom developing cracks in the transom welds. I patch it and will hold a few months but it's a PITA. Figure it's not only the weight but the torque of the engine as well.

I did consider this but I know someone with a seasport 4.50 which would definitely take the 55hp and it has the same transom, the ribs just longer

It doesn't really matter but it would save me the time of selling this outboard and buying a new one

The Yamaha 55 two stroke is in fact lighter than the 40 HP 4 stroke. I say go for it... sounds fun

Consider simple reinforcement for your transom. Don't let anyone inexperienced operate it without instruction in starting forward gently and with the thrust in line with the hull. Realize that that sucker is a fire cracker. Get someone to hold your beer, and have a really good time running over jet skis.
