Auxiliary Heater Reviews or Opinions before I buy

Hello forum members,

I’m shopping for a auxiliary heater that will run off of the engine antifreeze coolant hoses. I’m thinking it will be mounted next to the hot water heater. I’ll take the return line from the hot water heater and tie it into the auxiliary heater, then back to the engine.

I’m guessing that’s the correct way to install?

Does anyone have recommendations on which brand to buy, what things to consider before buying, and are there any preferred vendors with good prices?

I’ve got a few things figured out. A high BTU unit for its space. Three speed fan motor. Mounting hardware with a face cover (I’ll cut a square hole in the wood under the bench seat in the cabin). It must be 12 volt. It will be a square unit with a fan and no air ducting. This heater will be secondary since I already have a Webasto EVO 55.

Thank you for any and all ideas, recommendations and perhaps sarcasm

Sam

Bowdrie, thank you for that suggestion. I didn’t know Dickinson made heaters for my application. And I trust the name Dickinson. I’m going to seriously consider your suggestion.

Thanks again

Re: Auxiliary Heater Reviews or Opinions before I buy

I have a Red Dot hydronic heater which is plumbed through my diesel stove (could be plumbed through engine instead) to heat my after cabin.

It produces enough heat, but it's terribly noisy. I rarely use it unless the temperature is around freezing outside or lower.

I have a friend who modified his single-speed fan on his heater by installing a rheostat to vary the fan speed. He used a fan control from a Dickinson stove.

Nord Sal, thank you for your input. I didn’t know the Red Dot heaters where noisy! I’m really thinking about going the Dickinson route as noted by Bowdrie in his post above. Dickinson appears to be made in Canada too and I’m very fond of Canada.

Thank you Nord Sal
