There are a few threads in the destination folder you can read about that. Many think it is still too dangerous to go the northern route to the med but I am planning on that after more research into it. I will be making that trip in 2020. Of course things can change but as of now, from what I've read, all you have to do is brandish a weapon, or even a fake weapon and they turn around and run. I guess they figure there are so many that go through there not armed it doesn't make sense to go after one that is.

That sounds like a pretty flippant attitude to the Red Sea. Got any references that support waving fake weapons is a reasonable protection on this route for cruising boats? I'm not aware of any direct attacks on cruising boats that went through this year.

Sorry...I can't find the link now. It was a month ago I read it. I remember them saying they mounted a lazor on it and lit up the boat with it and that is when they turned around and left.

Re: Australia to Hawaii

I bought a boat in Houston 10 years ago, a Farr 43 that had turned around after crossing the Pacific and beat back to the Canal non stop from Fiji. Still had the track on the plotter. He had injured his back and judging by the track they covered less than twice the rhumb line distance. It did go to weather pretty well though.
