Re: Atlantic ICW - how often do you see dolphin

Dolphins are all over the place. One manatee seems to make an annual trip up the east coast. Most like the warm water of southern Fla.. Check for the signs limiting speed for a manatee area.

I'm pretty sure that when in the Miami area you need tickets to see the Dolphins.

We see dolphins riding our bow wave mostly when under sail. With a good bone in our teeth they will often play for a half hour or more. They may be put off by engine noise.

Re: Atlantic ICW - how often do you see dolphin

The OP is evidently on a Seadoo speeding around looking for Dolphin.

It doesn't usually work that way.

When I do my slow cruise across the 18 miles or so of open bay here at 4 to 6 knots,
sometimes the dolphins appear near the third Island of the CBBT.

Other times they are near the North shore.....but this is over many hours of sailing and at anchor not just out speeding around for an hour or so...

It is true I zoom around some. But at my age I am content just sitting and drifting with the tides more than zooming.

I was lucky to see dolphin surfing in the waves while standing on the jetty at Ponce Inlet at Wilbur by the Sea. Lol, I always called that area South Daytona.
It was a day when the water was extra clear too.

That's great that you can zoom around at an older age but maybe you should get a small monohull where you are out there for longer periods enjoying nature.........with no noise except for the water going passed your boat and the wind going through the slot.......

also then you can sleep on your boat at anchor etc......

We were out Sunday in Core Creek, Beaufort NC area and had dolphins along for most of the trip. We see them more than not from VA to West Palm. They seem to like us around 8K, when we slow down they disappear. Jan has probably a hundred hours of video. . .
