We were heading north on the
ICW about 10 miles north of Fort Pierce, I think. This was probably 3 - 4 weeks ago. We heard a
boat being hailed and asked repeatedly to slow down to pass. The boat didn't respond. A short time later, all we heard was "a$$hole".
A bit later we look behind us, and this large megayacht is barreling up the ditch putting out a 5' wake. We tried hailing him. He passed within 10' of us and we were tossed back and forth and EVERYTHING came off the counters, table, etc. What a mess. Never mind how shook up I was. Now we had the name of his boat, and tried hailing him. No response. We called it into the USCG. Unfortunately, they do nothing. They said we needed to call FDW. The
captain figured nothing would be done, but I wanted it noted that the
captain of said boat is a
danger on the
water. I called and finally got to the right office (you need to know the county it happened in) and complained. Not sure if it did any good or not.
Still shaken up hours later, I googled the boat name and sure enough, it belonged to a company that provides the boat with a hired captain. It appeared it was being delivered from FL to MA for the summer season. I called and left a message. Then I found them on FB and sent a message. They took note of my concerns and I figured that would be that. I just heard back from them the other day. I'm not sure of the details, but their captain damaged the boat and was fired the next day. They are now suing the captain. Since they gave me the name of said captain, I looked HIM up on FB. He's telling his friends that the boat was a POS and he had to walk off. Yeah, ok. One of his friends asked him if he "ruined another boat". OMG. He truly is an a$$hole and he was the kind that just didn't care.
